The strain that built Amsterdam

White Widow · Weed Box Pattaya · 4 June 2026

White Widow won the High Times Cannabis Cup in 1995 and never really left the menu. The strain — a sativa-dominant hybrid with unusually heavy trichome coverage — became the symbol of Amsterdam coffeeshop culture for two decades.

The profile

Sativa-leaning hybrid, around 60/40. THC 18–22%. The aroma is sharp and almost piney, less sweet than modern hybrids. The flower is named for the dense white trichome layer that covers mature buds — it looks dusted in sugar.

The effect is energizing and head-focused, with mild body relaxation underneath. Onset around 10 minutes for smoked flower. Peak 90 minutes.

The cultural weight

For tourists in their 40s and 50s who visited Amsterdam in the 1990s or 2000s, White Widow carries memory weight. It is recognizable on sight and aroma. Ordering it is, for many users, a small return to a specific moment in their personal cannabis history.

For younger users, the strain is interesting as a classical reference point — the genetics that built much of modern hybrid cannabis. Tasting the original after years of descendants is a useful calibration.

Who it's for

Returning users with Amsterdam memory. Hybrid users who want a head-focused experience without going pure sativa. Anyone curious about classical cannabis cultivation.

Availability

Rotates through both branches. The original genetics are easier to find than some classical strains because the cultivar has remained in commercial circulation continuously. Ask staff.
